Game PIN: 169035
--------------------
TASK 1 - Create a new post and title it: Music Videos intro.
------------------
TASK 2 - HOW DOES CONTEXT INFLUENCE MEDIA?
After going through the information in the PPT, please write your own conclusion of "WHY IS THE MEDIA INFLUENCED BY SOCIAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS?"
- As part of your answer please include your own definitions and differences between culture and social contexts.
- Use the examples from the adverts we saw to illustrate your points.
----------------
You need to select ONE music video from each of the two lists below... I have recommended my personal favourites based on how media language creates representations and reflect social and cultural contexts.
Here are the Music Videos... click here.
List A:
- Corinne Bailey Rae - Stop Where You Are.
- Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy.
- Emeli Sandé - Heaven.
I recommend Corinne Bailey Rae - Stop where you are.
AND ONE from this list:
List B:
- Fastboy Slim - Ya Mama.
- Radiohead: Burn the Witch.
- David Guetta - Titanium.
I recommend David Guetta - Titanium.
Write your selection in your blog together with your reasons for choosing them... What do you like about them? What don't you like about them?
If you decide to go for the ones I suggested then please write a list of what you like and dislike about them too.
--------------------------
TASK 4 - TEXTUAL ANALYSIS.
Choose 3 scenes from your chosen videos and write a short analysis of how media language creates meaning in your scenes... for example:
Video: Corinne Bailey Rae.
Characters ‘on the edge of society’ are introduced – again initial stereotypes of an angry homeless person and a uncaring businessman are suggested, then challenged by a two shot of them together chatting (he has brought her a cup of tea).
This scene is challenging Stereotypes. The Two Shot, straight angled shot used in this scene represents that they are both part of the same society, even though they are from different socio-economic statuses. One could argue that this contrast could represent a key message the artist is trying to convey... society should have no barriers.
NOW, try doing it with your own different examples... Choose 3 from each of the videos your chose and analyse them using media language and key terms.
Use PEE structure (Point, Evidence and Explain) and include information on how social and/or cultural contexts have influenced the representations in your chosen scenes.
